I am a passionate gardener. The garden is my sanctuary, where I find solace and inspiration. My mind finds clarity and ideas bloom amidst the greenery, vibrant flowers, melodious birdsong, and graceful swimming fish.

Unfortunately, city life doesn't allow me to fully indulge in my gardening interests. Balcony gardening has never appealed to me; I yearn to be on the ground, digging soil and walking barefoot in a garden after a hard day's work. That's why I eagerly accepted Pat's suggestion to visit the World of Phalaenopsis in Ulu Yam, Selangor.

We started our day early, filled with excitement to explore a place where we could have breakfast amidst nature. The World of Phalaenopsis enchanted us, and we couldn't resist buying beautiful and reasonably priced orchids to bring back to Kuala Lumpur (KL). Pat's car was overflowing with plants.

As we prepared to head back, Pat, always adventurous, asked if I wanted to explore more. Still buzzing from the orchid experience, I eagerly agreed, and together we searched for nearby attractions. That's when we discovered the Serendah Waterfalls and the captivating Seven Wells of Serendah.

While we visited the Serendah Waterfalls, it was the remarkable architecture and engineering of the Seven Wells that truly captivated me. Intrigued, I delved into some research.

I learned that Serendah was once a bustling mining town frequented by prominent mining figures in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Foong family operated the Malayan Hydraulic Tin Mine in the 1960s, utilising water from the Seven Wells to break up the tin-bearing soil. The river was dammed by British pioneer miners to mitigate floods in the area. Although the exact date of the dam's construction remains unclear, various sources offer differing accounts.

I highly recommend visiting the Seven Wells while exploring the more famous attractions in the surrounding area. It provides a unique glimpse into the region's history and showcases impressive engineering marvels. I only wish that more information about the Seven Wells of Serendah was readily available on the internet.
